Love in the metaverse

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

Crypto Penne by Arun VT, Performed by Umashankar

As the song title, Crypto Penne is a very catchy EDM track, with no doubt would make you crank up the volume knob and vibe along. With an album art having Neon colors, VR Headset wearing guy the artwork gives an interesting first impression to stop scrolling.

I think Arun has produced this track in a relaxed state of mind compared to his previous tracks Mudivili and Manam Oru Kannadi. Sometimes one has to take a minute break from thinking about the universe, and think about the girl on the sub-train, or blockchain.

It has simple lines about a girl, in the meta verse - Crypto penne. But the arrangement makes it interesting. The song's melody is actually - there is no melody per se. The way I heard it, the melody is constructed while listening (in my head) by the Bass, Backing vocals, rhythm, and the lead vocals :) Really meta, isn't it?

There is a very short female vocalization which is very attractive, but you do not hear her again. A teaser. There could have been another verse to the song.

The production is spectacular. The Arpeggios and Trance sounds are precisely programmed that sound tight with the Synth bass and rhythm.

Arun VT says,

"...the EDM arrangement on its own opened up the scope for lyrics that explored how to fall in love with a digital version o fa girl in the metaverse. There is even a line 'maan pole thaavidum tharagai (a woman who hops '. Whilst at first it sounds poetic, but it actually refers to the volatility of crypto currencies.
Singer-song writer friend Umashankar not only arranged great harmonies, but also performed them that set a new texture altogether.
The artwork was created by an artist popular in the NFT World for his work. The lyric video was odne by an upcoming editor who spent enormous amount of time on the design, fonts for it's futuristic looks using license free footages..."

Crypto Penne is part of the Tamil Indie essentials playlist. Please check out the songs by other Independent artists here, follow the playlist for updates.\
