Come To Me Baby - Prasad S.N

Written, Produced and Performed by Prasad S.N

Just stumbled onto this gem, and let me tell you, it's got that vibe you can't ignore! The intro and that catchy opening verse 'STR nanadi en pondatti nee engadi'—gold. Short, sweet, and no unnecessary fluff, this track keeps it real from start to finish. The arrangement might be simple, but the production is excellent. The beats were on point, and the decision to stick with the essentials proved more than sufficient.

Now, that nada warm interlude—genius move. Curious about adding saturation for that extra punch, but Prasad said, 'Nah, we ain't copying nadaswaram.' Respect for keeping it original. And the line 'Pub ku pora vayasula Pubg velayaduren' Hilarious and seriously catchy melody. Lyrics game on point!

Prasad on vocals is killing it—sounds oddly familiar, like that friend who's got a secret rockstar alter ego. Overall, it's a super memorable, chill song. Picture this: lazy Sundays or cruising with the windows down. It's a big thumbs up from me!

Oru Naal Solvaaya - Nishanth Vijay

Composed, Produced & Performed by : Nishanth Vijay

Lyrics: Debora

Violin: Hari Krishna

‘Oru Naal Solvaaya’ unfolds as an intimate conversation between the protagonist and his two imaginary friends, a poignant exploration of emotional depths. Nishant immediately captivates with an Arjit Singh-like flavor in the first line, setting the emotional tone that persists throughout the song. The production occasionally echoes the profound influence of A.R. Rahman, adding a layer of richness to the sonic landscape.

The song seamlessly transitions from verse to pre-chorus, introducing a refreshing change that keeps the listeners engaged. A highlight is the soul-stirring violin solo complemented by strings, evoking a sense of a heartbeat racing in tandem with the plot's intensity.

Debora's lyricism shines brightly, with the line "Nenjam thirandhida Naal neram thevai illai, Kadan vaangi konda vaarthaikku uyir thandhen" encapsulating the essence of the plot in a profound and concise manner. The depth in the writing adds a layer of complexity to the song, showcasing impressive storytelling.

What stands out is Nishant's commitment to originality, steering clear of industry trends and standards. This authenticity shines through, making 'Oru Naal Solvaaya' one of the best tracks in recent times. Nishant's musical prowess is commendable, and I eagerly anticipate more from this promising artist.

Rayil Pogum Idam - Vijaynarain

Written and Performed by : Vijaynarain

Vijay Narain's latest release, 'Rayil Pogum Idam,' following the success of 'Kaikku Etunadhu,' is a testament to his versatility as an artist. The song invites us into a lyrical realm with the poetic line, 'Oru vanavillin thodakkathil irukum thangathai theduven.'

However, it's the chorus line, 'Parugidava Aruvigalai' that truly sweeps you off your feet, accompanied by enchanting guitar plucking and mesmerizing falsetto vocals – an auditory delight you must experience firsthand.

Singing about nature and self-discovery has a magical way of making us feel weightless. The lyrics, both deep and light, are highlighted by lines like 'Iyalbin Saalaiyil valaindhen' proving that memorable lines need not be complicated.

It's refreshing to witness Vijay Narain, known for his mainstream hits, delving into the indie scene alongside artists like Shakthishree and Benny Dayal. His performance in this track is nothing short of impressive, as expected from the 'Hey Suzhali' man.

The arrangement is soulful, simple, and heavenly, bringing to mind flavors reminiscent of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy throughout the song. Every element of 'Rayil Pogum Idam' exudes soul and class, with a well-crafted production that resonates with musical finesse. A must-listen!

Iru Manam - Kalyani Nair, The Indian Choral Ensemble

Composed & Arranged by : Kalyani Nair

Written by : Vidhya Vijay

Performed my : Kalyani Nair, THe Indian Choral Ensemble

"Iru Manam" reiterates the fact one always admires the beauty outside, only to realize that the reason behind the light outside of us actually sources within ourselves.

The enchanting journey of this song begins with piano chords, instantly evoking memories of classics like "Aasai Oru Pulveli" and "Mogathirai." "Iru Manam" weaves a motif, brilliantly improvised and explored through the enchanting collaboration of choir, strings, and orchestral rhythm.

The song's dynamic shifts create an immersive experience, escalating in intensity before gracefully resolving, evoking a profound sense of peace. As it transitions between intensity and tranquility, it gently lands us in a lush meadow with the mesmerizing line "Vaanam Kaakum Mayamana Otrai Vinmeen Nee."

A pleasant surprise emerges with the entrance of jazz-inspired drums around two-thirds into the song, adding a delightful touch. Strings, choir, and Kalyani Nair's timeless voice take us on a surreal trip, reminiscent of the purest form of music. Speaking of Kalyani, her voice remains as fresh as it felt when I first heard 'Adi Thozhi, offering a nostalgic connection for longtime fans.

The song's magic is further amplified by the Indian Choral Ensemble, adding a unique and mystical quality. While the desire for more music from 'The Indian Choral Ensemble' arises, it's unfortunate that additional tracks couldn't be found on Spotify. Nevertheless, this song delivers a pleasant and rich musical experience, offering a glimpse into the pure essence of musical artistry.

Poi - Kaber Vasuki, Atiium, Anjana Rajagopalan

Written & Composed by : Kaber Vasuki

Produced by: Atiium

Additional Vocals: Anjana Rajagopalan

Released by : KYN Records

Kaber Vasuki's 'Poi' delves into the complex realms of insomnia, substance abuse, lucid dreaming, blurring boundaries between reality and dream. It's a deep exploration that promises a psychdelic journey through the intricate landscapes of the mind - in the lines of the movie 'Lucia'.

The song kicks off with a captivating synth lead, quickly joined by racing kicks, setting the stage for an intense experience. Packed with gripping lyrics, it races through a series of catchy phrases before plunging into a chorus featuring the intriguing & distorted repetition of "Poi poi."

What stands out is the exceptional narrative, skillfully alternating between quiet and heavy portions, creating a dynamic contrast. The use of analog synth, synth bass, accompanied by eerie guitar tones, adds depth to the sonic landscape. The programming of the beats deserves a special mention. The strategic use of a synth lead resembling an emergency alarm serves as a clever melodic element/motif, injecting a sense of impending threat—the very essence of the song.

While Kaber Vasuki's songs have sometimes posed a challenge on the first listen (to me), this track offers a more mainstream narrative, making it more accessible. In the Tamil Indie scene, we need more songs like this, making it a definite must-listen.

Vaaichol - Krithika Nelson

Composed & Performed by: Krithika Nelson

Lyrics: Mahakavi Bharathiyar

Produced by: Prashanth

Guitars: Keba Jeremiah

Krithika and her team have delivered a powerful birthday tribute for Bharathi with their rendition of 2 verses from "Nenjil Uramum Indri." I found myself immersed in this song throughout yesterday. We must talk about the melody, It's no small feat to unlearn decades of hearing a poem & then reinterpret it with such catchy phrasing and a dark bluesy melody.

Krithika's composition & rendition are not just powerful but also stylish and bold, perfectly capturing the essence of what Bharathi envisioned for a woman's portrayal. Anything less would have been - letting the man down.

The production is outstanding, showcasing a remarkably minimalistic approach. It doesn't soudn minimal though. The fusion of bluesy lines with beautiful distortion guitars, along with rich guitar solos and licks, elevates the track to new heights. Kudos to the arrangement, production, and mix master; every element seamlessly comes together, keeping the listener engaged and moving throughout to the song. The narrative is excellent, quiet and heavy portions, pauses, enhanced by well-placed sound effects that add surprises, especially the pulsing sound effect (possibly a vocal effect) that pans, the racking of a pistol slide, and captivating guitar glides, vocalisation.

Vaaichol is a masterpiece that deserves applause for its impeccable execution. The blend of narrative, production, and Krithika's bold rendition creates an unforgettable experience. We need more songs like this. A Must-listen.

Theera - Joseph Vijay

Composed, Arranged and Produced by: Joseph Vijay

Vocals: Ravi G

Lyrics: Srikanth Varadhan

"Theera" is a beautiful love song that effortlessly transports us back to the enchanting era of late 90s and early 2000s Vidyasagar songs—a delightful trip down memory lane. The track is adorned with a memorable melody, carrying a pleasant classical flavor that adds to its timeless appeal.

The introduction is marked by the resonance of nice drums, and throughout, the percussions and drums contribute to a live music ambiance, enhancing the overall experience. The programming is skillfully executed, and the instrumentation, including refreshing guitars and a beautiful bassline, gives the composition a charming depth. Joseph's guitars, brilliantly recorded, add a layer of freshness to the sound.

The mixing and production of "Theera" are exemplary, creating a sonic landscape that feels vast and immersive. Ravi G's vocals work wonders, delivering an outstanding performance, especially notable in the line "irundhalum nam vazhvil kai korthu selvoma." The song, with its pleasant love theme, successfully blends nostalgia with a contemporary touch, making it a delightful and enduring musical experience.
