Nee Parthadhum - Goutham Vasu Venkatesan

Composed & Arranged by: Goutham Vasu Venkatesan

Lyrics: Vignesh Srikant

Performed by: Anusha Rajasekhar & Vignesh Srikant

"Nee Parthadhum" has been on my sharing spree lately, and for good reason. It's got this uncomplicated melody, built on a snappy little motif. Not your run-of-the-mill easy stuff, but it's got that raw beauty that hits just right.

You know those movies that make you feel like you're the main character at the end? Well, this is one of them. Instant "Main Character" vibes, no kidding. At least for me. Now, Vignesh Srikant's lyrics got me hooked. The way they're delivered, one word at a time, keeps you hanging on for the next one. It's like a musical cliffhanger, and I'm all about that anticipation.

Goutham Vasu Venktesan's composition is a thing of beauty, as is the arrangement. No frills, just the essentials. Anusha Rajasekhar's vocals are like a sweet melody for the ears. I'm all in to listen more of her. Atiium's mixing sounds smooth, and pleasant to the ears.

Just when I thought the song was gearing up with the piano and shakers, bam, it wraps up. Talk about a tease. But hold on, there's a wonderful version sung by the lyricist, what!? It's feel-good central. One of the best doses of musical sunshine I've had lately.

Kaadhalum Kaayamum - Vagu Mazan

Composed & Performed by Vagu Mazan

Lyrics: Madhan Karky

'Kaadhalum Kaayamum' unfolds a narrative of relationship discord, aggressive clashes, and the echoes of remorse. It's a refreshing deviation to see such raw human conflicts explored in the Indie realm.

Kicking off with a groovy guitar riff, the song wastes no time in setting a vibe that gets you moving and snapping along. Vagu's vocal dynamics are a standout feature, seamlessly switching between soft and robust tones. An interesting tidbit – Vagu takes on the male part of the song, as well, a fact that deserves a shout-out; otherwise, it might slip by unnoticed. Vagu's pa-pa-ra-parapaaa vocalization injects a fresh element, adding a contrasting element to the intense song. However, I felt that the diction was less-than-clear diction at certain places.

The storytelling is focused, painting a vivid picture of two individuals locked in a complex dance. Madhan Karky's lyrical craftsmanship shines, guiding us through the turbulence in the air. The line "vaaimozhiya vizhithuliya vellappovadhu yaar", 'endrumini enkaiyai ongamaatenadi' say the essence of the song in a single stroke – deep and intense.

Overall, Kaadhalum Kaayamum is a beautiful song in every aspect. A must listen!

Manasukkul Mazhai - Pavani Vasa

Written by: Ahamed Shyam, Sujith Benjamin

Performed by: Pavani Vasa, Robin Sebastian, Sarthak Kalyani & Sujith Benjamin

Released by :Wavebee

Kicking off with a distinctive rhythm and an intriguing intro, "Manasukkul Mazhai" sets the stage for a musical journey. Pavani Vasa's voice, with its warm timbre and texture, acts like a sonic comfort blanket, enveloping you in a cocoon of warmth.

The song maintains a steady flow, a consistent pace that carries you through its entirety. What stood out for me was the bass layer - it's lively and bustling, becoming a magnetic force that draws my attention to its melodic dance. I loved this line "mejai poovaga nee rasithida poothu kidappene".

On the flip side, I couldn't help but notice an abundance of arpeggios and loops, somewhat saturating the song with these repetitive elements. But, the beats in "Manasukkul Mazhai" showcase some skilled programming, particularly in the strategic use of delays.

A highlight, however, lies in the backing vocals. Skillfully woven into the mix, they add a layer of richness to the overall composition. The meticulous blending of warm lead vocals, slick beats, and bass give a rich lush sound to the song, topped with Pavani's performance.

In essence, "Manasukkul Mazhai" is a nice feel-good love song.

Idhu Kaadhal Dhaane - Adithya RK

Written by : Pavithra Lakshmi

Performed by : Adithya RK

Released by: Think Indie

Every time I write about Tamil Indie songs, Adithya RK is always there. "Idhu Kaadhal Dhana" opens its doors with the smooth cascade of Adithya's vocals, a signature move that's become almost synonymous with his musical identity. The verses effortlessly lead us into a simple yet infectious chorus.

Teaming up with Pavithra Lakshmi, Adithya RK pens down lyrics that hit a sweet spot. Lines like 'un thedal ennai theeyai soozha, nijamai naan erindhene' stand out for their sheer beauty, shining even brighter when brought to life through Adithya's rendition.

Akkarsh Kasyap's violin performance is a game-changer, injecting a rich layer into the composition. The drum work, especially in the initial segments and consistently throughout, caught my attention and added a rhythmic backbone that complements the song's intensity. Around the 3:45 mark, the song sheds layers before catapulting into an intense bridge. Even the outro felt like a tease, leaving you hanging on the brink.

Vinodh Ravi Sundar/Rupendar Venkatesh's mix/Master paints a smooth and expansive canvas. However, the drums, while impactful, could have retained a bit more of their dynamic range. It's more of a 'nice to have' than a glaring flaw. In the grand scheme of things, "Idhu Kaadhal Dhana" unfolds as another chapter in Adithya's repertoire of intense love songs.

Anniku Raathiri - Mali, Madhan Karky

Written by : Madhan Karky

Performed by : Mali

Released by: Think Indie

"Anniki Rathiri" takes us on a delightful detour back to the late 80s pop scene, a nostalgic trip that starts with the quirky charm of a retro video game. It's cool how the song kicks off, setting the scene like you're about to embark on some pixelated adventure. The lyrics in the opening verse brought to mind a bit of 'Another Day in Paradise' by Phil Collins, but in a totally different scenario.

Madhan Karky weaves a vivid tale of a girl navigating a rainy night street, encountering intriguing characters along the way.The storytelling  is spot-on, I started seeing pictures, in slow motion.

The narrative takes a clever twist, with a dreamy chorus line that adds a layer of contrast to the overall plot. There's a sweet spot when the key goes up by a Minor third, and we could use that lift to enjoy as the song ends.

Maalavika Manoj, aka Mali, delivers a slick performance, infusing the chorus line with a dreamy quality that resonates perfectly with the song's theme. Despite being a fully sequenced track, the arrangement is remarkably smooth and minimal. The mix complements the vibe of the retro pop scene beautifully, that feels like a throwback without compensating for the loudness of today.

This track is a killer dance tune, why it’s not blowing up on social media with dance reels, I’m sure I don’t know. Maybe it's just one of those underrated gems waiting to catch fire.

Poi - Nishanth Vijay

Lyrics by: Debora Fernando

Performed by: Nishanth Vijay & Sai Aditya Ramesh

Well, this is a hot one, just released today! got introduced to Nishant Vijay when he reached out to me with 'Oru Naal Solvaya,' a gem of a song crafted by Debora. Now, they've rolled out 'Poi,' a vibe-along track that carries the unmistakable stamp of Nishanth & Debora's flavor. This time, it's like Nishant went full-on Anirudh mode, echoing his vibes throughout the song.

The chorus hits differently—it's infectious, the kind that could easily become your all-day earworm, especially if you kickstart your day with it. Nishanth's got this classical-infused singing style that adds a unique touch. The arrangement is on the fast lane, and it works like a charm. Shoutout to Sai Aditya Ramesh for that accordion solo; it's a standout moment in the track. We don't hear accordion much in indian songs, let alone this kind of fast accordion solo.

Certain lines like "Meiyaga poiyaga vazhndhene naan," or "alaiyaai theendi ponalum, idhil nijamedhu kanavedhu," grabbed me and had me hitting replay to savor those bits again. Debora's pen game is strong; she definitely needs to pen down more.

The mix and arrangement in "Poi" blend smoothly, creating an energetic vibe. Nishant Vijay's vocals, resembling Anirudh, match well with the fast-paced arrangement. The brisk tempo keeps things lively, making it a well-crafted indie track worth adding to your playlist.

This one's a true indie release from a sincere team, making it a must-listen, an essential addition to your playlist. It's a genuine piece of musical goodness that deserves a spot in your playlist.
